I’m aware that some people have had problems with this and also not everyone reads the TFgames thread which has provided some solutions to this so I thought it would be helpful to put up a post here. While this is primarily for Windows 10 it may well help with other versions of Windows. Not going to be helpful for those on Macs, which I don’t have any experience with myself, I have however heard from people who have got it working using Parallels Desktop running Windows 7 so it is technically possible to do.
Rags Game Engine
In short, Rags is a free game engine to create visual novel and text based adventure games. Lately we have seen quite a few games made on this engine. It is probably easier to access compared to Ren’Py. Anyway, this is a small tutorial that is about how to play a file with.rags extension. Here is everything you need to play Rags. RAGS has been designed from the ground up to quickly and easily get your ideas into a playable format. With an integrated picture and object library, you can upload your game pictures once.
If you can’t get the link on the RAGS game site to work for 2.4.16.0 I’ve rehosted a download link on mediafire here.
There’s are two main things that you can try;
-First you can try installing the SQL which RAGS needs to run which you can find here.
-The other is that RAGS needs WMP installed which depending on your version can be found in these locations;
Once downloaded make sure WMP is actually installed and enabled. You may need to go to Start -> Control panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn a Windows feature on or off -> expand the “media” folder -> make sure Windows Media Player is checked
A couple of other suggestions;
Make sure you’re using the right RAGS version for the game you’re trying to run. As of No Haven 0.803 I believe I’ve worked out enough of the kinks so that 3.0.60. should also work and may well be more compatible with your device if everything else suggested on here fails. There will be formatting issues, and you will need to update the text to html using the in game tools, but there is an upside that the game is significantly nippier. You can get a copy of 3.0.60 player I’ve rehosted here.
Do not open the file directly from your browser, save it to disk and open from that folder separately.
Make sure it is a folder you have full rights to, say your Documents folder
If you are in a country that does not use a decimal place for number, say Germany that uses a comma (ie 1,23 not 1.23) then RAGS games can badly fail and the only solution is to change your locale to a country that uses a decimal place

Performance Improvements
Now I’ve not tried this myself as RAGS player has always been pretty responsive on my system, but if you want to take some extra steps these additional fixes could well help out.

Found a huge performance improvement for .NET BinarySerializer that vastly improves the performance of Rags saves for No Haven. It sped up loading a game save from 50 seconds to 10 seconds on my computer and appears to be very safe. The main requirement is that you have .NET 4.7.2 installed which I believe you have to install separately.

I cannot fix everything in Rags but these seem reasonably safe. Also this should work for any Rags game and not just No Haven.

Warning: The patched files might cause problems that I’m not aware of so use at your own risk. Make backups and all that. The other config change should be totally safe.
To emphasise the warning no support on this will be offered and these are to be installed at your on risk. They’re also not going to be relevent I’d guess if you’re using
3.0.60. They have though be used and found to be good by cmacleod42 who is someone I trust so there’s one endorsement.
How to repair corrupted archive RAR or ZIP file? We know that file corrupt is one of reasons that lead to archive decompression failure. The other reason is wrong password.
If it is just because of password wrong, extract archive again with right password is OK. Even though you have no RAR or ZIP password, RAR Password Genius or ZIP Password Genius would help you to recover it.
So now let’s see how to do with RAR/ZIP archive corrupt error.
When archive is corrupted, maybe it is not so easy to extract it like when archive password is wrong. But it is possible to repair RAR or ZIP archive successfully with following three methods.
Method 1: Repair corrupted RAR/ZIP archive with WinRAR
Compressed file repair function is integrated in WinRAR. So if you want to repair corrupted archive, you can try to use WinRAR.
Step 1: Run WinRAR and in address bar, navigate to the location where the corrupted archive is saved.
Step 2: Select corrupted RAR or ZIP file. Click Repair button in tool bar, and choose “Repair archiver” if there is a drop-down list.
Step 3: Then a new dialog would pop up. There you can choose the location where you want to save the archive after repairment. Confirm settings and click OK.
Step 4: After 100% repairing corrupted archive, go to the folder you choose to save repaired archive, and find the file named _rebuilt.rar or _rebuilt.zip. This file is the repaired archive file you want.
How To Run Rags Games
Tips: You can try this method, because if the archive is not corrupted seriously, the success rate is high.
Method 2: Repair damaged RAR/ZIP archive with compressed file repair tools
Undoubtedly, the special compressed file repair tools are available to repair corrupted or damaged RAR or ZIP archive. For example, Zipmagic, RAR Recovery Toolbox, Advanced RAR Repair, they should be powerful than repair function provided by WinRAR. They adopt a variety of algorithms to scan damaged archive to recover archive data, and check the consistency of archive file. All of these make archive corrupted data recovery better.
However, most of them are not free to use. So if you have no other ways to repair damaged archive, they are good choices for you.
Method 3: Repair corrupted RAR/ZIP file with shortcut menu
If your compressed file, RAR or ZIP archive is not large software, but an archive with several files, such as images, you can take following method into RAR or ZIP corrupt error repair.
Step 1: Select your RAR archive and right click it. Choose “Extract files” in the appearing shortcut menu.
Step 2: In the “Extraction path and options” window, choose a folder to save decompressed archive. And check Keep broken files in Miscellaneous.
Step 3: Click OK to begin extraction. When there are errors message prompting you, ignore them and go on to extract archive. Then we will get all the files that are not broken or corrupted.
